Product Description Compact and high-performance, this standard lens is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). Its Gaussian optics provides sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.
Amazon.com Product Description Lightweight and affordable, the Canon EF 50mm lens--which offers a fast f/1.8 aperture--is an excellent lens for people who prefer a fixed focal length. Canon's lightest EF lens at a mere 4.6 ounces, the lens boasts a traditional Gauss-type optical design that delivers a sharp performance even when wide open. As a result, the lens provides an image that's extremely close to how your eye perceives a subject, making it excellent for portraits and images that require a natural depth of field. In addition, the lens focuses as close as 18 inches, helping you take extreme close-ups. Finally, the lens offers an excellent color balance. As with all Canon lenses, the lens carries a one-year warranty. - Focal length: 50mm

Excellent lens August 16, 2008 Martin W. Naugher (Linden, VA USA) As usual, Canon puts out an excellent product. The vendor shipped the lens out to me on schedule and I had it when they said I would
Thanks.
It's alright... August 16, 2008 Carolin Y. Elsey-lawton (Georgia) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't really care for this lens. The build doesn't bother me, it just doesn't seem like it was all the everyone raved about. I've used it at weddings and portrait sessions and again...no big deal.
Insane Quality, Low Price, Everyone should own one August 15, 2008 S. Kearns (McMinnville, OR) I am a college student and an emerging photographer, which is a terrible combination. As many of you know photography can be an expensive hobby/art and college prices are rising. So what to do? Research lenses, save up money, and hope you aren't disappointed.
This lens did not disappoint. I was skeptical at first thinking that an inexpensive lens would mean terrible quality, unreliable build, and overall crappy pictures. BUT, on the advice of a friend I spent the small amount. I haven't taken the lens off my camera since. You will not find a higher clarity lens for this amount of money. I recommend it to everyone. This lens will always hold a special place in my heart because with it I discovered what the art of photography really is. Unfortunately now I am looking for a zoom lens with the same quality (I have been spoiled with this one) and the prices are outrageous. So buy the 50mm. Everyone should own one.
For the money...I can't complain August 13, 2008 A. T. Gardner (Salt Lake City, UT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am new to the DSLR group but I understand the technical babel when it comes to good lenses, I know that there are better lenses out there, without a doubt, but when I got this for around $80 I just cant complain when I look at my pictures. They are very sharp, the color is not perfect but I just post process that anyway. Eventually I will get the more expensive 1.4 lens, but for now this is plenty of lens for my portraits. I would recommend this lens in a heart beat.
Pros:
Good color reproduction Good picture quality inexpensive light Sharp Does exactly what you by it for
Cons:
No zoom capability Build quality is ok Color could be better
Simply WoW August 6, 2008 Noe Garcia (Brookfield, WI) I just receive this lens when I was at work, I put it on my camera and GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Well I had to give myself a break... This lens is Awesome and for this price WOW. I love it for portraits the detail and color are just amazing, I was skeptical because of the price thought it was a plastic lens but it looks solid. It does makes lots of noise while focusing but if you have your headphones on you wont hear a thing :) Now time to go and see how it looks in different subjects - hmmm the city???
